A jubilant celebration of the gospel according to St. Matthew, this Broadway
and West End musical of the 70s was described by Alan Jay Lerner as "part
rock, part revival singing." Godspell, the first pop-rock-gospel musical,
was created by Stephen Schwartz from the youth culture of the sixties,
and provided audiences with a contemporary approach to the Bible. The staging
used pantomime, vaudeville, and soft shoe dancing with ballad, pop and
rock songs such as "Day by Day," "All For The Best," "Turn Back O'Man"
and "By My Side."
Show dates were March 20, 21, 26, and 27, 1999. All performances were held
at Clearspring Elementary School, on Moyer Road in Damascus, Maryland.
