The Secret Garden The Secret Garden

Main Characters:

Lily: The beautiful love of Archibald’s life and unrequited love of Neville’s. She died in childbirth with Colin and nothing has been the same. She currently lives as a ghost, watching over those she left. She is sad to see what is going on in the house, but is always a beacon of hope.

Mary Lennox: A spoiled girl who always got what she wanted. She is very hard headed and will always stand up for herself. Slowly through the course of the show, she becomes much kinder and begins to think more of others than herself.

Archibald Craven: A broken man. Before his wife, he was alone. While he was with her, he was the happiest he could ever be. Once she died, he was alone again, only this time, he knew what he was missing. Blames himself for his son’s illness. Gentle, kind, but with no self esteem or hope without Lily beside him.

Dr. Neville Craven: The younger brother who has been forced to carry on his brother’s life at the expense of his own. Loved Lily as much as his brother did. Colin is his only link to Lily and must keep him alive to keep her alive in his memory. Not a villain, but as close as this show comes to one.

Mrs. Medlock: The head housekeeper at Misslethwaite Manor. She is Dr. Craven’s right hand. Very proper and gruff. Not cruel, but if she has a kind streak, we don’t see it.

Martha: One of the maids at Misslethwiate and sister to Dickon. Speaks in a very thick Yorkshire accent. She is probably as stubborn as Mary. Kind, good natured and haughty. The kind of gal that likes a good pint of ale after work.

Ben Weatherstaff: Groundskeeper at Misslethwaite. A kind old man who befriends Mary as she wanders the gardens. The kind of guy you like from the moment you meet him.

Dickon: Martha’s brother. He is often found wandering the grounds of Misslethwaite and the surrounding moors. Also speaks in a thick accent. A very soft spoken nature lover. If there is any real magic in this story, he is the one who knows about it.

Colin: A tragically ill little boy. His constant pampering has made him very spoiled and self-important. He believes that his father hates him and that everyone must do whatever he says because he is going to die. But underneath it all, he is very lonely, isolated and sad.
